The hard part
Withholding tax is deducted at source by whoever pays, at a rate that depends on what was sold and to whom. Automating it meant encoding rules that change by category and by year, and flagging the cases where they had not been applied.
What it costs to be wrong
Tax deducted at the wrong rate is the firm’s shortfall to make up, and it is found at year end by someone reconciling certificates that do not match invoices.
